Goodbye, White Wonderland

Pasquale Rotella recently announced on Instagram, that though a very hard decision, Insomniac will no longer be hosting one of their NYE events, White Wonderland. Instead, Rotella has opted to focus Insomniac’s efforts on expanding their recently debuted New Year’s Eve festival, Countdown.

White Wonderland started in 2011 and was held at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event was 21+ only, unlike most of Insomniac’s events. It also had a strict dress code: all white. This festival had replaced Together as One, another New Year’s event that Insomniac promoted until 2010. The event still goes on but is now only promoted and hosted by Go Venture.

With recent issues regarding weather and drug use, companies that create these festivals are under pressure to make sure that these events are constantly improving to make sure festival goers are safe and have a great time.

Though White Wonderland has come to an end, people seeking a way to celebrate NYE in a big way have plenty of options. Countdown, OMFG NYE, Decadence, and Snowglobe are just a few events that people can experience to bring in the New Year.

The tickets will be sold in a series of phases that will have increasing prices. In Phase 1, which begins this Friday, the General Admission tickets will be $90 plus fees. There is a total of four phases going up all the way to $125 but there is no guarantee the tickets won’t sell out by then.

The 18+ event will be held at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino and will be home to three stages. The stages will include the Resolution Stage, Infinity State, and Quantum Stage. Some of the lineup includes Carnage, Kaskade, DJ Snake, Flux Pavilion, and What So Not just to name a few.

Like all Insomniac events, while the music is the main part, it is not the only part of the experience. There will be several art installations throughout the venue that Headliners will be able to interact with.

If this sounds like the perfect way for you and your friends to bring a close to 2015, be sure to check out Till Dawn Group for any deals on hotel rooms and transportation. Get your crew together and grab a safe and fun bus to and from the venue to make this NYE the most memorable yet. You can find more information on hotels and transportation here.

Don’t Let Your Halloween Rides Get Scary

After you’ve made or bought your costume, purchased your alcohol, and paid for tickets to whatever Halloween event you have chosen to attend, the last thing you want to do is spend a fortune getting to and from your event. If you can’t seem to find a friend to volunteer as designated driver on Hallow’s Eve you will most likely be using a service like Uber or Lyft.

On particularly busy nights, Uber and Lyft both drastically increase the price of rides, even ones that are short distances. Uber has its Surge Pricing and Lyft has its Prime Time.  Here are a few tips for Halloween night that might save you from spending a scary amount of money on rides while keeping you safe!

Pay attention to the price! Be sure to play close attention to the price before ordering your ride so that you are not horrified by the high price when its to late. Both apps indicate when the higher pricing is being used. Although you and your group might be eager to get home,  be sure to take a minute to pay attention to whether Surge Pricing or Prime Time have started!

Try to move away from busy streets or downtown areas! The high prices are in effect in really congested areas. You and your friends might try walking a few streets away from the congested area to see if some cars free up. It is worth a shot.

Uber Pool/ Lyft Line! In certain cities, Uber now offers Uber Pool where you can share rides with other people going in the same direction. Be sure to check out which cities offer it and note how many people the car can accommodate. Lyft has a similar capability called Lyft Line.

Leave early or wait it out! If your costume called for 6 inch heels or you simply don’t want to walk, you may have a chance by simply waiting it out or leaving early. If you leave your party/event a little earlier then you have a better chance of avoiding the mayhem. Most clubs/parties end around the same time so leave an hour or two earlier and maybe escape the frenzy. If you want to stay the whole time, you could wait an hour or two, grab some food nearby, and wait for the prices to return to normal as more cars free up.

Surge Protector! An app called “Surge Protector” was released after all the notorious stories of people paying hundreds of dollars for short rides started circulating. The app works for Uber users and can help find an area where Surge Pricing hasn’t hit and calls the car there.

If going out and buying a pumpkin feels like too much effort, this tick is perfect for you! As you can see, the easiest hacks are the best. All it takes to add a fun spin to your normal drinks are a few plastic syringes and some food dye. 5 Things To Do For Halloween

Finally, the season we have all been waiting for has begun. Along with cooler weather (hopefully) and pumpkin flavored everything, also comes the stress of what to do on Halloween. The good news is that this year Halloween lands on a Saturday which means you have many options to choose from. Here are five options you might consider, whether  you want to keep Halloween mellow or go hard, stay local or take a trip, splurge or keep it inexpensive.

5. Scary Movie Night! If staying in at some point during the weekend sounds good to you or maybe your plans fell through last minute, then a scary movie night is a great way to celebrate Halloween. You can invite over friends and pick new or classic scary movies while maybe even enjoying some spooky themed drinks.

4. Parties! One of the most obvious options is to go to a Halloween house party. Not only are they the easiest to attend in groups, but they are also inexpensive since you don’t have to purchase any tickets (just your alcohol). Whether a friend’s party or a huge college rager you stumble upon in the famed party town of Isla Vista, its bound to be a good time.

3. Theme Parks! If you don’t want to go to a crazy party yet don’t want to be stuck at home, theme parks are a fun and spooky way to enjoy Halloween, especially if you’re willing to spend a little money and have never been before. Knott’s Berry Farm with its Halloween Haunt and Universal Studios with its Halloween Horror Nights promise to terrify their guests with scary mazes and actors.

2. Halloween Music Festivals! If you would prefer to dance the night away, you can attend a Halloween music festival. There are two major events occurring Halloween weekend in SoCal. One is Insomniac’s Escape from Wonderland and another is HARD’s Day of the Dead. Both offer some great DJ sets and you can eve wear a costume to the event. So if dancing all night to great music at a spooky themed festival sounds great to you, check these events out. Plus, Till Dawn Group has got you covered on great hotel room rates and transportation to get you to and from the event safely.

1. Las Vegas! If you would like to use Halloween as an opportunity to take a mini vacation and get away for the weekend, Las Vegas is an excellent option. Not only will you get to see some big name DJs at various night clubs, you can also experience the Las Vegas Strip on Halloween too. In addition, Till Dawn Group has an excellent package to make your Halloween one for the books. Not only do you get excellent room rates, but you have the opportunity to go to Marquee and Tao night clubs!

HARD Day of the Dead 2015

dod

If you are planning on staying local for Halloween this year, one event you might consider is Hard Day of the Dead. The event will take place at the Pomona Fairplex on Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st. However, be sure to be aware of the recent changes that HARD has had to make for this event

Following the death of two young women at HARD Summer, several changes have been made to these events in order to promote safety. So if you have been to HARD events in the past, you might be able to spot these changes.

Previously, HARD allowed guests as young as 18 to enjoy the event. However, since the incident involving two underage young women, they raised the age limit to 21. In addition, in order to be able to adequately search and handle the crowd, the number of tickets to be sold this year have been reduced. HARD Summer had about 65,000 attendees but Day of The Dead, which is held in the same venue, will only sell tickets to about 40,000 people on both days.g

Despite these changes, those of you who are old enough and are able to snag a ticket, will get to enjoy some great sets. Some of HARD Day of the Dead’s acts will include Deadmau5, Skrillex, and even indie rock band Glass Animals.

As always, have fun and be safe!
